From the Archives: A bergere hat for American Girl Doll Felicity

This bergere hat for my American Girl doll Felicity is made from half of a vintage straw purse – steamed to shape and trimmed with acetate ribbon roses, and a satin ribbon draped across the top.

The other half was used to make Bella’s lovely ribbon-wreathed hat!

To shape the crown, the straw disc was steamed over an upside down teacup, and then a satin ribbon was draped across the top, and secured in place by pansy flowers made of a sheer decorative ribbon.

Yes, I know that the ribbons aren’t supposed to cross over the top of the hat, but I didn’t know that when I made it – it’s a style that references the 18th century so well people THINK “18th Century” when they see it. It is a very pretty hat – and even thought Felicity actually DOES come from the 18th Century, the bergere looks so sweet that I decided that Felicity probably wouldn’t notice!
