One afternoon I went a little bit crazy with wired ribbons and made something like six thousand dozen roses. I hot glued them all over a small bamboo hat from a souvenir shop in Toronto. I added a yellow bow and a pair of long kissing strings at the back so that the hat can catch the breezes. And voila! A doll-size hat blank laden with dozens of variegated wired ribbon roses becomes an 1860s American Girl doll summer hat!

Pretty cute, eh?

Worn with Bella, my mid-19th century summer dress, this American Girl doll summer hat lends a touch of warm color to what would otherwise be a very cool, monochromatic ensemble!
